Moving from IPhone to Android

So you are trading in your IPhone for an Android. Big change that used to be very labor intensive when it came to transferring photos, contacts, and music. Well, things have gotten a lot simpler. Here are the steps to making the move easy.

To Transfer Contacts:

IPhone

You must have your contacts synced with the iCloud so turn on Contacts in the settings of your IPhone ( Settings > iCloud )
Log into iCloud on your computer
Select Contacts
Select the gear icon ( bottom left ) and chose Select All then Export vCard – use Safari or Firefox browser.

Then

Go to your Gmail
Select Contacts
Select Import and import that file

NOTE: Another option is to use the free My Contacts Backup app from the app store. It backs up your contacts and then you can email the backup file to your Android phone. This app creates a VCF file which you can import into your Android contacts app.

To Transfer Photos and Videos:

Easiest: Plug your iPhone into your Windows PC and chose Import pictures and videos.
Alternative: Use Google’s photo and video app that’s available on Android and iOS. Once you have the app, login with your Google account, turn on “Backup & Sync”, and continue. Once synced, you can view pics and video from your Google account on your Android phone or tablet. ( be patient, this can take time )

To Transfer Music:

Sync your iPhone with your iTunes library
Install Google Play Music Manager on your Android device
Point the app to your iTunes library and set the app to upload any new songs you purchase
and keep the app open – that’s all you need to do!

Google Play Music Manager streams music from the cloud, it doesn’t download music so you must be online. No connection = no music. If you want to listen to music offline, then you’ll have to download the music.

If you want to download all of your purchases ( music, apps, etc ) to your computer, follow these instructions from Apple. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201267

  1. At first it wasn’t so bad. I enjoyed the customization of the Android operating system. You can modify everything on Android from the fonts to the actual way you launch apps and shortcuts.
