My California garden is in full production mode. Growing onions is a favorite of mine because they always do so well and taste much better than store bought.
I loaded my raised garden with organic compost/mulch from the Las Virgenes Community Compost. Super powerful stuff to get your garden in tip top shape. This highly recommended free compost location seems to be a bit of a secret because whenever I go, there’s never much of a line. They’re open Saturdays until 1pm for the public.
I take large trash bags to fill up with compost but I’ve seen people bring trash cans and plastic bins. The location provides shovels so no need to bring any.
Great compost = Great Results When Growing Onions
In my garden, I have tomatoes, sweet onions, artichoke, squash, Chandler Strawberries, eggplant, and Pineapple Sage. These onions came out of the ground looking great and smelling better. I’ll have to learn how to make gluten free onion rings. Have a recipe? Send it my way!
